Each holiday season Beaucatcher aims to provide a little extra celebratory aspect to your salon visits. Last year was our client-based homemade advent calendar that got everyone smiling, and this year we are turning our salon space and front windows over to our great friend the artist Gina Southgate.
Kicking off with a private view of her latest landscapes, abstracts, and live gig paintings entitled unSTILL Lives 3, Gina will be our artist in residence for December and the exhibition will continue through January 2012. The private view will be held on Sunday 27 November at Beaucatcher from 5:30pm-8:30pm. There will be live music from Vera Jonas Duo at 7:30pm and as it’s the first party of the season, some surprises too.
Gina is famous for doing live paintings, mainly of jazz musicians in their natural habitat – on stage. At her last Beaucatcher exhibition in 2010, Gina turned her paint brushes on us, the hairdressers, and the result was a well-loved painting which still hangs in the salon today. During December Gina will be spending time in the salon painting ‘live hairdressing’ on a small scale. Her appearances will focus on weekdays and late evenings, they’ll be random but if you would really like her to paint your appointment, request it when you book and she will do her best to paint you. She won’t charge, but if you like the results, the painting will be available to purchase.
Gina will also be in charge of our holiday window displays. We are very excited to hand over to her for a magnificent site-specific light installation she is creating. All of this culminates in a very Gina Southgate Xmas which we hope you will enjoy as much as we will.
Gina was also recently featured on the BBC News website when she was artist in residence at the International Jazz Festival in Gateshead.
